A medical practitioner, Dr Bayo Ogunmola, has appeal to residents of Ido-Ekiti to desist from defecating in open places to prevent health hazards.
Ogunrinde made the appeal in an interview with newsmen on Thursday in Ido-Ekiti in Ido-Osi Local Government Area.
He said that open defecation could jeopardise the health of the residents of the state.
He warned that residents who are fond of defecating on roadsides, dumping sites and drains should desist from such dirty habits.
Ogunrinde said that for any community to be free from infectious diseases such as cholera, typhoid and malaria among others, residents must maintain a high level of hygiene.
“I appeal to the residents of Ido-Ekiti to desist from defecating in the open environment.
“It is quite unfortunate that many people have cultivated the habit of defecating in drains and dumping sites which are unhealthy for the people living in the area.
“I want to appeal to our people to desist from defecating in an open environment and maintain proper hygiene.
“It is until we learn to keep our environment clean, that we can all live a healthy lifestyle,’’ Ogunrinde said.
He urged the environmental officers to be strict in discharging their duties in order to stop open defecation.
