The Medical Director of Optical Cancer Care Foundation, Dr Olufemi Olaleye has been sentenced to double life imprisonment by the Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court.
The court found him guilty of raping his wife’s 16-year-old niece.
Justice Rahman Oshodi ruled that the prosecution successfully proved the charges of defilement and sexual assault by penetration against Olaleye. The doctor faced a two-count charge for his actions.
The defendant had pleaded not guilty at his arraignment.
However, Justice Oshodi said that the evidence adduced before the court against the defendant was compelling and proved the offences beyond reasonable doubt.
According to him, the confessional statement of the defendant, made before his lawyer, Mr Olalekan Buruji, and the DPO of Anthony Police Station, in which he stated that he regretted his act, proved that he committed the offences.
The judge said that the oral statement, which the defendant denied, had Buruji’s NBA seal on it and his denial did not hold water.
“You are a dangerous offender and you must be ashamed,” the judge said, referring to the convict.
Meanwhile, Actress Kate Henshaw on Tuesday applauded Justice Rahman Oshodi of the Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court for justice dispensation in the case of child defilement brought against a medical director in Lagos State, Dr Olufemi Olaleye.
She said, “I want to give kudos to the incorruptible Justice Rahman Oshodi for a detailed judgment.
“He listened attentively throughout the proceedings and left no one in doubt that this judgment is his.
“He saw that there was no remorse in Femi Olaleye and that he would repeat the same offences if let go.
“I watched Femi’s body language all the time I came to this court and he showed no remorse as he was always shoulder-up.”
The actress also praised Lagos State Domestic And Sexual Violence Agency for awareness campaigns and war against sexual offences.
Henshaw advised victims of sexual assault and domestic violence to speak up so as to eradicate the menace.
