Mechanic in court for reckless driving, malicious damage
A 20-year-old mechanic, Fatai Obafunsho, on Wednesday appeared before an Ogudu Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for reckless driving and malicious damage.
Obafunsho, who resides in Ketu area of Lagos state, is also accused of driving without licence.
The Prosecutor, Insp Donjor Perezi, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on April 6 at 9.30 p.m. along Agiliti Road, Mile 12, Ketu, Lagos.
Perezi said the defendant dangerously drove a Toyota Avalon Saloon car, registered LSD 918 DD, and rammed it into a parked trailer from the rear, damaging it in the process.
“Obafunsho was given the car by a customer to repair when he drove the vehicle in reckless manner without the consent of the customer,’’ the prosecutor told the court.
Perezi said that the offences contravened sections 18 and 11 of Road Traffic Law of Lagos State, 2012.
News reports that the sections stipulate two-year jail term for damage and seven years for reckless driving.
When his plea was taken, Obafunsho pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Magistrate, Mr M.O. Tanimola, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 with one surety in like sum.
The magistrate adjourned the case till May 31, for trial.
