Mbah inaugurates Ozongwu as Budget, Planning Commissioner

Gov. Peter Mbah of Enugu State, on Monday, inaugurated Mr Chris Ozongwu as the Commissioner for Budget and Planning, bringing the total number of Commissioners in the state to 21.

The Solicitor General of the state, Victor Emeribe, administered the Oath of Office to the new Commissioner.

Mbah had on Aug. 10, inaugurated the first set of 20 commissioners in the state.

Performing the inauguration at Government House, Enugu, the  Governor expressed gratitude that he had added another key person to his cabinet to tackle the challenges of the state.

He said that the Ministry of Budget and Planning was everything in the era of disruptive innovation, explaining that whenever budget was being  planned, it must reflect government’s priorities.

Mbah further explained that his administration would ensure that what was contained in the budget accurately captured the revenue, which must be deployed to execute what had been provided for in the budget.

He added that his administration aimed at doing things completely different, which must be anchored on transparency and accountability.

The governor urged the commissioner to pay attention to the pattern of growth in the last 24 years, noting that the current model, which focused on revenue from the federation account was not adequate.

“Distruptive innovation means we have to find the money, intervene critically across all the sectors, creating models for financing, and get actionable plan.

“We have to get the cost implication, make sure it will fund this humongous and massive vision we have for the people of Enugu State,” Mbah said.

The governor reminded Ozongwu that the expectations from Enugu people were high and as such, his government would  not accept poor quality jobs from him but the best.

He congratulated the commissioner on his appointment and thanked him for accepting to serve the state.

Responding, the new Commissioner thanked Gov Mbah for his appointment, and promised to discharge his duties diligently and creditably.
