MAPOLY shuts down indefinitely over students’ protest

The management of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY), Abeokuta, Ogun State, announced on Monday the indefinite suspension of academic activities following a protest by some students concerning issues with National Diploma (ND) result verification.

The unrest was organised by students who had completed their National Diploma at other institutions and faced difficulties in verifying their results with the Polytechnic.

In a statement issued by the Polytechnic’s Public Relations Officer, ‘Yemi Ajibola, the management explained that the closure was necessary to maintain the safety of both students and staff, given the ongoing protest.

Ajibola emphasised that the institution would not tolerate the acceptance of fake academic results under any circumstances.

He noted that the decision was to ensure the safety of the students.

He said, “Authorities of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic Abeokuta have announced the closure of the Polytechnic effective from Monday, January 13, 2025, till further notice.

“This is to ensure the safety of lives and properties owing to the protest by some students on the decision of the management to verify their National Diploma results from their former schools.

“Management expressed its zero tolerance to fake results from any quarters. Consequently, students are advised to stay away from the campus in their interests.

“Parents and the general public are assured of timely updates as events unfold.”

The statement further advised students to stay away from the campus until further notice and assured parents and the public that updates would be provided as the situation developed.
