Acting Rector of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY), Abeokuta, Dr Adeoye Odedeji, has sought the support of Governor Dapo Abiodun over accreditation of interim programmes in the institution.
Odedeji stated this on Monday during the International Day of Colour, with art exhibition, at the school premises in Abeokuta.
According to him, it is high time the Department of Art and Industrial Design commenced Higher National Diploma (HND) programme.
He said that the department had been running on an interim accreditation since its inception in the institution, adding that it had the opportunity of having full accreditation in 2016 but could not be done.
“I’m happy to inform you that we have made request to National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) and we have received response as regards full accreditation of the department.
“As soon as that is done, we are good to request for HND programme,” he said.
The acting rector said that NBTE had given all polytechnics across the country till August to get all their programmes accredited, after which those yet to be accredited would be suspended.
He pleaded with the state government to render support to the polytechnic, particularly in the area of undertaking full accreditation for some programmes that were on interim accreditation.
Odedeji listed some of the programs as: Nutrition and Dietetics, Hospitality Management, Leisure and Tourism Management and Quantity Surveying, among others.
“We have about 45 programmes that we are presently running but by the time the additional programmes are presented for resource inspection and accreditation, we will be having no fewer than 60 programmes,” he said.
