The Police on Friday arraigned a 48-year-old manager, Tijani Hassan, before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for stealing his employer’s N900,000.
The defendant, who lives in Ogba area of Lagos State, is being tried on a charge of stealing before Magistrate A.S. Odusanya.
The prosecutor, Insp Emmanuel Ajayi, told the court that the defendant committed the offence in October 2020 at Ogba.
He alleged that the defendant stole N900,000 belonging to his employer, Mrs Lola Jobi.
“The defendant came with a vehicle to the complainant’s shop and stole N850,000 she kept in her safe.
“He also stole 50 packs of non-alcoholic beverage valued N50,000 and absconded to an unknown destination.
“He was later apprehended and taken to the police station.”
Ajayi said that the offence violated Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
Reports state that the section stipulates three years’ imprisonment for stealing for any convicted offender.
Hassan, however, denied committing the offence.
Odusanya in his ruling granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.
He ruled that the sureties must be gainfully employed and produce evidence of two years’ tax payment to the Lagos State Government as part of the bail conditions.
The magistrate adjourned the case until March 9 for mention.
