Man lands in Osun court for perverting justice

Abimbola Abatta, Osogbo

An Osogbo Magistrates’ Court has remanded a 30-year-old man, John Babarinde, over alleged perversion of justice.

It was gathered that the accused person committed the offence on November 30, 2020 around 9:00 a.m. within the Osun High Court premise.

The Police Prosecutor, ASP John Idoko told the court that the accused person conspired with Morakinyo Babatunde, an accused in a case charge no. MOS / 327C/ 2020, to pervert the course of justice.

He said Babarinde refused to appear in court without any cogent reasons for his absence.

The accused person was charged with disrespect to the court’s supremacy.

The offence committed contravened the provisions of Section 176 (1) of the Criminal Code CAP 34 vol. 11, Laws of Osun, 2002.

The Defence Counsel, Mr Taiwo Awokunle prayed the court to grant his client bail in the most liberal terms.

Magistrate Mary Awodele, in her ruling, ordered the remand of the accused person in Ilesa Correctional Centre due to the magnitude of the alleged offence committed.

The magistrate, thereafter, adjourned the case till April 12 for ruling on the bail.
