Man lands in court over alleged N20,000 fraud

A middle-aged man, Opeyemi Ilelaboye has been remanded by an Osogbo Magistrates’ Court over alleged fraud.

The accused person who pleaded not guilty allegedly committed this offence on January 5, 2021 around 10.00 am at Oke- Fia Area, Osogbo.

The police prosecutor, Akintunde Jacob told the court that the accused person obtained the sum of N20, 000 from Alimat Amuda with the pretence to help her release her husband from Ile-Ife correctional centre, knowing fully well it was false.

Amuda’s husband was alleged to have sold cows worth over 4 million naira and did not pay the owner.

The accused person who is currently living in Ibadan and working in Yale Biscuits company was also alleged to have tried to use that as an advantage of having an affair with the complainant due to her situation.

The prosecutor further said the accused has previous cases and currently, he has been given a bail in Ile-Ife Federal High court for impersonating OC SARS of Oyo state.

The offence committed is contrary to and punishable under Section 419 of the criminal code cap 34 VOL. II Laws of Osun State Nigeria 2002.

Defence counsel, K.A Adepoju prayed the court to grant bail to his client on liberal terms.

However, the prosecutor told the court not to grant the bail, based on bails given to the accused in other courts.

He further said the accused won’t be able to afford the bail.

In his ruling, the magistrate, Mr. Ishola Omishade, turned down the bail and ordered the accused person to return the N20,000 to Amuda.

The case was, thereafter, adjourned till January 14, 2021.
