Man lands in court for stabbing co-tenant in Osun

An Osogbo Magistrates Court has on Monday remanded a 23-year-old man, Okunola Sodiq, to for allegedly stabbing his co-tenant.
The alleged attacker, Okunola Sodiq who is facing a two-count charge bordering on stabbing and biting of one Dauda Abdulgafar, pleaded not guilty to the allegations slammed against him.
Sodiq was charged by unlawfully causing grievous harm to Dauda by using a knife to stab him on his left hand and biting him on his chest.
The Prosecutor, Olayiwola Razza, alleged that Sodiq deliberately used the knife to inflict deep cut on the victim’s left hand on January 24, 2021 around 08:30 am at Zone D2 Fiwasaye community, Osogbo
He told the court that Dauda is currently at Ladoke Akintola Teaching Hospital (LAUTECH).
He further noted that Sodiq and the victim are co-tenants, disclosing that the victim suspected Dauda of stealing some properties which led them to their Landlord.
He explained that in the process of meeting with the landlord, Sodiq got furious and stabbed Dauda on his left hand.
The committed offence is contrary to and punishable under section 335 of the criminal code cap 34 Vol. 2 Laws of Osun State Nigeria 2002.
Defence counsel, Okobe Najite urged the court to grant his client bail, promising that he would stand his trial.
The prosecutor, however, opposed the bail application due to the victim’s health condition at LAUTECH.
The Magistrate Ishola Omishade ordered the accused to be remanded in Ilesa correctional centre.
He, thereafter, adjourned the case till February 3, 2021 for hearing.
