Man lands in court for allegedly stealing motorcycle

A 23-year-old man, Anthony Kehinde, was on Wed arraigned before an Ado-Ekiti Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing a motorcycle.

The defendant, of no fixed address, is standing trial on a one-count charge of stealing.

The Prosecutor, Sgt. Sodiq Adeniyi, told the court that the defendant and one other person, at large, committed the offence on Dec. 18 at about 01:00 p.m at Shasha Area, Ikere-Ekiti road in Ado-Ekiti.

Adeniyi alleged that the defendant stole one Red Bajaj Boxer motorcycle with Registration number JER 799 WS, valued at N250,000 belonging to one Yakubu Hassan.

He noted that the offence contravened Section 390(9) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.

The prosecutor asked the court for an adjournment to enable him study the case file and assemble his witnesses.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Counsel to defendant, Mr Emmanuel Folayan, urged the court to grant his client bail, with a promise that he would not jump bail.

The Magistrate, Mrs Mojisola Salau, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum.

She adjourned the case until Jan. 26 for hearing.
