Man lands in court for allegedly stealing Ekiti govt vehicle

A 42-year-old man, Bayedo Busuyi, was on Tuesday arraigned before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court for alleged theft of a Toyota Hilux belonging to the Ekiti State Government (EKSG).

The defendant of no fixed address is standing trial on a charge of stealing.

The  prosecutor, Insp Bamikole Olasunkanmi, told the court that the defendant and others still at large committed the offence on Nov. 25, 2021 in Ado-Ekiti.

Olasunkanmi alleged that the defendant and the  others  stole a Toyota Hilux  with registration number EK 452 A01 Ekiti, attached to the Ekiti State Bureau of Statistics, value  yet unknown.

He said that the vehicle is the property of Ekiti State Government.

According to the prosecutor, the offence contravened Section 390(5) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr Michael Faola, granted bail to the defendant in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.

Faola said that the sureties must have verifiable means of income.

He adjourned the case until February 14 for hearing.
