Man jailed 6 months for swindling businessman

An Area Court in Jos on Thursday sentenced a 25-year-old man, Mudassir Lawal , to six months imprisonment for swindling a businessman of N 452,000.
A Panel of judges made up of Malam Sadqi Adam and Mr Hyacenth Dolnanan, sentenced the convict after he pleaded guilty to criminal breach of trust and deceit.
The judges gave the convict an option of N 10,000 fine.
They also ordered the convict to pay compensation of N452, 000 to the complainant.
Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Insp Monday Dabit told the court that the case was reported at the ‘A’ division Police station on April 4 by Mr Umar Zakari.
He said that convict begged the complainant to loan him N 452,000 for a business with a promise to return the money in two weeks.
The prosecutor further told the court that during police investigation the convict confessed to have converted the amount to his personal use.
The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of sections 297 and 307 of the Plateau State Penal Code law of Northern Nigeria.
