Man jailed 2 years for trafficking 49.9 kg of marijuana

Justice Uche Agomoh of a Federal High Court Ibadan on Friday sentenced a 25 year-old man, Adeyinka Ismail to two years imprisonment for trafficking 49.9 kg of marijuana.

Agomoh held that she convicted and sentenced Ismail based on the evidence tendered against him.

”Stay from crimes after completing his jail term because he might not be lucky again,” she held.

Agomoh also noted with sadness the spate of drug trafficking in the society and its negative effect on people’s wellbeing.

The judge said that she considered Ismail’s plea that the court should be lenient in sentencing him and the fact that he was a first time offender.

“Therefore, the convict is sentenced to two years in prison, starting from the first date of his arrest.

“The NDLEA is directed to destroy the Cannabis Sativa found in his possession,” Agomoh said.

The NDLEA counsel in Oyo State, Mr D.O. Otunla, had earlier said that the convict was arraigned on a-count charge bordering on unlawful dealing in Narcotic.

Otunla added that Ismail committed the crime on Jan. 18, at Labo-Jingede area of Ibadan, Oyo State.

He said NDLEA operatives arrested Ismail in possession of 49.9 kg of Indian Hemp after intelligence reports by vigilant residents of the area.

He said that the offence contravened the provisions of Section 11 (C ) of the NDLEA Act Cap. No.30 Law of the federation 2004.
