Man in court for allegedly defrauding client of N7.2m

A 29-year-old car dealer, Taiwo Abiodun on Monday appeared before a Tinubu Magistrates’ Court, Lagos for allegedly defrauding his client of N7.2 million with the pretence of selling him a vehicle.

The defendant, who was charged with two-count of fraud and stealing, pleaded not guilty to the offense.

The prosecutor, Insp. Samuel Ishola told the Court that Abiodun committed the offense on Nov. 22, 2019 at Ikeja Testing Ground, Ikeja, Lagos.

He said that the defendant collected N7.2 million from his client, one Mr Victor Okafor, with the pretext of selling him a Lexus PX 350 Jeep, 2010 model.

The prosecutor added that the defendant did not bring the vehicle and had been unable to refund the money since 2019.

He said that the offense Contravened Sections 287 (10) and 314 (1) (a) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The Magistrate, Mr A.A. Paul, granted Abiodun bail in the sum of N500,000 with one surety in like sum.

He adjourned the case until April 24 for hearing.
