Man docked for allegedly receiving 1,680 crates of stolen beer

A 31-year-old man, Emmanuel Ekwuru, was on Thursday docked in an Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan allegedly receiving 1,680 crates of stolen beer worth N4.8million.

Ekwuru, whose address was not given, is charged with conspiracy and receiving stolen goods.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Prosecution Counsel, Insp Olufemi Omilana, told the court that Ekwuru and others at large conspired to commit the act.

Omilana said on Nov. 4, 2020, in Egbeda area, Ibadan, Ekwuru allegedly received 1,680 crates of Goldberg beer worth N4.8million, knowing full well that it was stolen.

He said the defendant allegedly received the goods from Johnson Olaniyan knowing same to have been fraudulently obtained.

Omilana said the offence contravened the provisions of Section 427 and 516 of the Criminal Code Laws of Oyo state 2000.

The Magistrate, Mrs. Munirat Giwa –Babalola, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N1 million with two sureties in like sum.

Giwa-Babalola adjourned the matter until Aug. 2, for hearing.
