Man docked for allegedly inciting disturbance, causing hurt at market place

The Police, on Tuesday, arraigned a 30-year-old man, Abdulmumini Brahma, at a Wuse Zone 6 Magistrate Court for allegedly inciting disturbance and causing grievous hurt at GSM Village, Wuse, Abuja.

Brahma of Chairman Street, Gwagwalada, Abuja, is facing a three-count charge of inciting disturbance, criminal intimidation and causing grievous hurt.

Police Prosecutor, ASP Peter Ejike, told the court that one Chris Eze, Chairman, GSM village, Wuse, Abuja, reported the matter at Wuse Zone 3 police station, on behalf of the GSM Village Union, on Jan. 5 at about 3.30 pm.

Eze reported that that while he was in his office at GSM Village, he received information that the defendant had attacked one Stephen Ochai with a broken bottle, stabbing him on his left hand and causing severe injury.

The Prosecutor told the court that the defendant’s action incited disturbance at the market, as he threatened the union members that he was a cultist, which made customers flee from the market.

Ejike said the offence contravened the provisions of section 114, 397 and 242 of the Penal Code.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges and Magistrate Ahmed Ndajiwo, granted him bail in the sum of N1 million with two sureties each in like sum.

Ndajiwo ordered that the sureties must be residents, within the jurisdiction of the court, with a fixed and verifiable address, and they must deposit their recent passport photograph with a valid means of identification, to be verified by the court registrar.

The Magistrate adjourned the matter until Jan. 28, 2021 for hearing.
