Man docked for allegedly forging land document

A 43-year-old man, Adams James was on Monday arraigned in a Kaduna Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly forging a land documents belonging to his brother.

The defendant, a resident of Narayi High Coast Kaduna, is standing trial on a one-count charge bordering on forgery.

The prosecutor, Insp. Chidi Leo, told the court that Vincent Francis reported the matter at the Barnawa Police Station on Feb. 12.

According to Leo, sometimes in September 2021, the defendant forged a document for a plot of land belonging to his brother (Adams Vincent).

He said the defendant forged the land document and forcefully entered the land when his brother was hospitalised.

The prosecutor said that following the report, the defendant was arrested.

Leo further said that during investigation, it was discovered that the defendant’s brother was the real owner of the land.

The prosecutor said that the offences contravened Section 409 of the Penal Code, Kaduna State, 2017.

The defendant denied committing the crime

In his ruling, the Magistrate, Ibrahim Emmanuel, granted the defendant N200, 000 bail, with two sureties in like sum.

Ibrahim ruled that the sureties must reside within the jurisdiction of the court and have their addresses verified by the court.

He said that if the defendant defaults in meeting the bail conditions, he should be remanded in a Correctional Centre.

The magistrate adjourned the matter until March 24 for hearing.
