A 25-year-old man, Ibrahim Ahmed, was on Wednesday docked in an Upper Area Court Gwagwalada, FCT, for allegedly cheating his business partner of N1.27million.
The police charged Ahmed who resides in Gwagwalada with criminal breach of trust and cheating.
The Prosecution Counsel, Mr. Abdullahi Tanko told the court that the complainant, Mr. Chibuike Anyam of Universal Peace Communication, Gwagwalada reported the matter at the Gwagwalada police station on Sept. 29.
Tanko said that sometimes in June the defendant was given recharge cards worth N1.975 million to sell and remit the money to the owner.
He said that the defendant sold the recharge cards and remitted only N700,000.
The prosecutor said that the offence contravened the provisions of sections 311 and 322 of the Penal Code.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Judge, Mr. Sani Umar, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N1.5 million with one surety in like sum that must reside within the court’s jurisdiction.
Umar said that the address of the surety must be verified by the court staff and must provide two recent passport photographs.
He ordered that the surety must provide photocopy of valid means of identification and if the defendant fails to meet the bail conditions he should be remanded in Nigerian Correctional Centre in Suleja.
He adjourned the case until Nov. 21 for hearing.
