Man docked for alleged N2.4m fraud

A 42-year-old man, Sheriff Atanda, on Thursday appeared before a Yaba Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for alleged N2.4 million frauds.

Atanda is facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, stealing and obtaining under false pretences.

He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Prosecutor, ASP Rita Momah, told the court that the defendant committed the offences in March 2020, at Church St. in Agege area of Lagos.

Momah said the defendant obtained the N2.4 million from the complainant, Dr Adebola Adeyemi, that he would pay the pounds equivalent into his account, but failed to do so.

He said all efforts made by the complainant to get back his money proved abortive.

Momah said the offences contravened Sections 314, 328 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos, 2015.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Adeola Adedayo, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N300,000 with two sureties in like sum.

Adedayo adjourned the case until Sept. 13 for mention.
