Man condemns Atiku, Obi, INEC for economic hardship
Presidential candidates of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Atiku Abubakar and the presidential candidates of Labour Party (LP) Peter Obi have been blamed for the ongoing socio-economic hardship in country.
A chieftain of PDP and supporter of the duo in 2019 general elections, Jayeola Ogunniyi from Ondo State said if Atiku and Obi had worked together in 2023, they would have won the election and Nigerians wouldn’t have been subjected to the present socio-economic situation.
Jayeola, whose home was destroyed by thugs in 2022 during the preparation for the 2023 general elections because of his position on Atiku and Obi contesting on different platforms, also blamed Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the poor way it conducted the presidential election which led to litigations.
According to him, if Atiku and Obi had worked together on PDP platform, they would have won the election, noting that the results polled by the duo put together was more than what the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu polled in the election
The coordinator of Atiku’s presidential campaign in Ondo State in 2019, who fled from the state after his neighbour was attacked in error by assailants who targeted him, said Nigerians who voted for the APC candidate should also be blamed for the current economic hardship in the country.
Jayeola, who spoke from his United States base, states that until Nigerians realise that they should de-emphasise vote-buying, the federation would continue to be in the grip of politicians without vision.
He said: “I still maintain my stand that it was Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi who caused Nigerians the current socio-economic hardship.
“If they had worked together in the last general elections, they would have won the election and Nigerians would have been better for it.
“They both meant well for the people and have rich programmes that are people-oriented.
“Some thugs invaded my home in Ondo State and destroyed it just because of my prediction that if Atiku and Obi didn’t worked together, they would both lose. Unfortunately, that’s exactly what happened eventually.
“But I want to say this, Nigeria and Nigerians would continue to be under the grip of politicians who do not have vision that could change the nation for better and make it a better place to live in,” Jayeola said.
Jayeola, who has no residence in Nigeria anymore, however, called on the electorate in Ondo State as they would be going into governorship polls on November 16, 2024 to ensure they elect a governor who would turn around the socio-economic status of the state.
“It is important to appeal to my people in Ondo State to ensure they study the manifestos and antecedents of all the candidates before casting their votes at the forthcoming gubernatorial election in the state. They should elect someone who would take the state’s economy out of the woods by turning it to industrial hub.”
