Man blames alcohol for raping 27-yr-old lady

A 33-yr-old man, Imoleayo Adekoya, has told Ogun State Police Command to handle him with care because he was under the influence of alcohol when he allegedly raped a 27-yr-old lady (name withheld) recently at Ipoji, Sagamu.

According to statement from Police Public Relations Officer of the state command, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi on Sunday, Imoleayo was arrested on Saturday 28th of August 2021 after the victim lodged report against him at Sakora Divisional Headquarters of Nigeria Police, Sagamu.

The lady was said to have told the police that while coming from Ipoji area of Sagamu, she was accosted by the Imoleayo who accused her of not greeting him.

She stated further that she apologized to him and urged him not to be annoyed, that it was because she didn’t know him.

The lady said but surprisingly, the man pounced on her and started beating her and dragged her to the back of his house where she forcefully tore her clothes and had sex with her despite her shouting and struggling.

Upon this report, the DPO Sakora division, CSP Rowland Dahunsi was said to have quickly detailed his detectives to follow the victim who was accompanied to the station by her father, to the scene where the suspect was identified by the victim and was promptly arrested with the assistance of the people around.

On interrogation, Imoleayo was said to have allegedly confessed to the commission of the crime, but claimed to be under the influence of alcohol at the time.

The victim is said to have been taken to hospital for treatment and medical report.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of police CP Edward Awolowo Ajogun, has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspect to state criminal investigation and intelligence department for further investigation and prosecution.
