Man arraigned over alleged theft of drilling machine

A 37-year-old man, Blessing Nneji, on Friday appeared before a Surulere Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly stealing a drilling machine.

Nneji, who was arraigned before Magistrate M. I. Dan-Oni, pleaded not guilty to a charge of stealing.

The prosecutor, Insp. Courage Ekhueorohan, told the court that Nneji committed the offence on Jan. 23 at No 24, Itolo St., Surulere, Lagos.

Ekhueorohan alleged that Nneji, an unemployed man, was seen jumping over a fence at Itolo St., when a security guard caught him and found a drilling machine in his possession.

He said that Nneji was handed over to the police when he could not give a satisfactory explanation how he got the machine.

The prosecutor noted that the offence contravened the provision of Section 287 (7) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The Court granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum.

The Magistrate adjourned the case until Feb. 15, for mention.
