An Iyaganku Magistrate’s Court, Ibadan, has detained a 50-year-old man, Rafiu Ayantayo for allegedly failing to produce his son in court for trial.

Mr Rafiu stood as a surety for his son and was unable to produce him for trial. The police charged Ayantayo with perverting the course of justice and also charged Biodun with housebreaking and theft.

The Prosecutor, Insp. Toyin Ibrahim, earlier informed the court that Rafiu failed to produce him in court on March 26, as promised.

He said the offence Rafiu committed was contrary to Section 126(1) of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000.

The defendant however pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Magistrate, Mrs Kausarat Ayofe, admitted him to bail in the sum of N50,000 and two sureties in like sum.

Ayofe held that one of the sureties must be a blood relation to the defendant.

She adjourned the case until June 4 for hearing.
