The Police in Enugu on Wednesday arraigned one Ogechukwu Okeke before Mrs Ngozi Edeani of Enugu East Magistrates Court for allegedly killing one Chinonso Odenigbo, 30.
The defendant is facing two count charge bordering on murder and use of weapon.
When the charges were read, the defendant who had no counsel pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Insp. Bonaventure Nnadozie told the court that the defendant and others now at large on Feb. 14 in Abor, Apugoeze in Oji River Council Area of Enugu State committed felony to murder.
Nnadozie said they killed and threw the victim’s body in the bush after hitting him with stick and fist blow.
He said the committed offences were punishable under section 494 and 274(1) of the Criminal Code, Cap 30, Vol.ll, Revised Laws of Enugu State, 2004.
Nnadozie however, tendered police files from Inyi Police Station and State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) and their inventories which was admitted by the court.
The presiding Magistrate said the defendant had right to apply for bail at the High Court and ordered that he should be remanded at the Correction Centre, Enugu.
Edeani also ordered that the case file be transmitted to the Department of Public Prosecution (DPP) for legal advice.
She however, adjourned the matter till April 6, for hearing.
