Man accused of homosexuality beaten by angry mob

A man identified as Mr. Muyiwa Adeola was viciously attacked on November 1, 2024, after being recognized from leaked private photos showing him in a compromising position with another man.

According to eyewitnesses, Mr. Adeola was walking out of his estate when a group of men confronted and assaulted him.

The attackers beat him until he lost consciousness, leaving him in a pool of blood before fleeing the scene.

A Good Samaritan, who chose to remain anonymous for safety reasons, intervened and rushed Mr. Adeola to a nearby hospital, where he was stabilized. A photo taken at the hospital confirmed the severity of his injuries.

After being discharged on November 14, Mr. Adeola reportedly went into hiding, fearing for his safety and potential legal repercussions.

Attempts by our correspondents to reach him for an interview were unsuccessful, as sources claim he is avoiding further scrutiny, including from law enforcement.

The attack highlights ongoing concerns about the persecution of LGBTQ+ individuals in Nigeria. Under Section 214 of the Criminal Code Act, same-sex relationships are criminalized, with offenders facing up to 14 years in prison. Activists report that many LGBTQ+ individuals have been arrested, and in some cases, murdered, with little to no intervention from law enforcement.

Human rights organizations continue to call for reforms and better protections for vulnerable communities, urging authorities to address hate crimes and ensure justice for victims like Mr. Adeola.
