Man, 54, docked for allegedly allowing illegal surgery

A 54-year old Felix Bamigboye was on Wednesday brought before a Yaba Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, for allegedly allowing a “quack” doctor to perform an illegal surgery on a resident in his home.

Bamigboye, a resident of Oshodi area of Lagos, is facing a charge of neglect to prevent felony.

He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The prosecutor, ASP Rita Momah, told the court that the defendant committed the offence at No. 15, Adesanya St., Mafoluku, Oshodi, Lagos.

Momah said that the defendant was the owner and director of a nursing home, Feloban Alpha Convalescent Home.

She noted that the accused person allowed an uncertified man, Mr Lawrence Oji, to perform a surgery on a resident in the home, Mrs Fatima Isah, which led to her death.

According to her, the offences contravene Section 410 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).

Reports state that Section 410 prescribes a two-year jail term upon conviction for neglect to prevent felony.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Adeola Adedayo, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N500,000 with two responsible sureties in like sum.

She ordered that the sureties must submit copies of their National Identification Number (NIN) and their Lagos State Residents Registration Agency (LASRRA) cards.

Adedayo further directed that both of them must be residing within the court’s jurisdiction and be gainfully employed, with evidence of three years’ tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

The magistrate adjourned the case until June 20 for mention.
