Man, 45, arraigned over alleged reckless driving
A 45-year-old man, Ayo Olowolayemo, was on Friday arraigned at an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court over alleged reckless driving.
Olowolayemo, a resident of 132 KVA Omisanjana Area in Ado-Ekiti, is facing a one count charge of reckless driving.
The police prosecutor, Insp Caleb Leramo, told the court that the accused person committed the offence on June 6 at Irona market square in Ado-Ekiti.
He alleged that the driver in charge of one Pontiac Vibe, green colour with Reg. No. LAW 557 AA Ekiti, negligently and dangerously drove the vehicle and caused ‘untimely’ death of one Ilesanmi Adeosun a 56-year old man of Ekute Quarters in Ado-Ekiti.
Leramo said the defendant drove the same vehicle on the public highway in a reckless and dangerous manner and caused the death of the deceased.
According to him, the offence contravened sections 18(5) of road traffic Act(RTL) laws cap R8 Vol.4 Law of Ekiti State, 2012 and 20(2) of Road Traffic Act (RTL) Laws Cap R8 Vol.4 of Ekiti State, 2012.
He urged the court to adjourn the case to enable him to study the case file and assemble his witnesses.
The accused pleaded not guilty.
His counsel, Mr Gboyega Abiola, urged the court to grant his client bail and promised that he would not jump bail.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Saka Afunso, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 with one surety in like sum.
He adjourned the case until July 4 for hearing.
