Man, 43, docked over alleged shop breaking, stealing

A 43-year-old man, Samuel Olawale, was, on Wednesday, arraigned before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court over alleged shop breaking and stealing.

Olawale, whose address was not given, is facing a two-count charge of shop breaking and stealing.

The Police Prosecutor, Insp. Olubu Apata, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Nov. 29 at about 9:00 pm. at Omisanjana Area of Ado-Ekiti.

Apata alleged that the defendant broke into the shop of one Amonaoko Emmanuel and stole a generator diesel engine, valued at N120,000, belonging to the complainant.

According to him, the offences contravened Sections 413(1) and 390(9) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.

He urged the court to adjourn the case to enable him study the case file and assemble his witnesses.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against him.

Counsel to the defendant, Mr Gbenga Ariyibi, urged the court to grant his client bail, promising that he would not jump bail.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr Bankole Oluwasanmi, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50,000, with two sureties in like sum.

He, thereafter, adjourned the case till Jan. 12, 2021, for hearing.
