Man, 40, in court for allegedly threatening pastor’s life

A 40-year-old man, Joseph Alu, who allegedly posted misleading information on social media against a pastor and his church members, was on Monday docked before an Ejigbo Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.

Alu, whose residential address was not provided, is standing trial on a three-count charge of conspiracy; conduct likely to cause breach of peace and threat to life.

The Prosecutor, Insp. Benedict Aigbokhan, told the court that the defendant and two others at large allegedly committed the offences on June 16, at No. 21, Bungalow Estate, Jakande, Ejigbo, Lagos.

He told the court that the defendant published misleading information on social media, with the intent to cause disaffection to one Pastor Sunday Eguaoyo and his church members.

The prosecutor alleged that the defendant also conducted himself in a manner likely to cause breach of the peace by sending a text message to the complainant, threatening to kill him and members of his family.

Aigbokhan said the offences contravened Sections 168(d), 323 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against him.

The Magistrate, Mrs. A. K. Dosunmu, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

Dosunmu ordered that the sureties must be gainfully employed and must show evidence of tax payments to the Lagos State Government.

She adjourned the case until Aug. 24 for mention.
