A 39-year-old man, Emmanuel Opurum, has appeared before an Ojo Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State, over alleged extortion of N400,000 from a complainant.

The prosecutor, Dr Simeon Uche, told the court that the defendant committed the offences in February at the Church Pole area of Iba town in Ojo.
He alleged that the defendant fraudulently obtained the sum of N400,000 from the complainant, Greg Derby, under the pretext of helping him to procure a Pakistan-Islamabad ticket.
The prosecutor alleged that the defendant rather converted the money to his personal use and failed to buy the ticket for the complainant.
Uche said that the offences contravened the provision of Sections 287 and 314 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The magistrate, Mr Ademola Adesanya, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N150,000 with two sureties in like sum.
Adesanya adjourned the case until May 9 for mention
