A Karu Upper Area Court in Abuja, on Thursday, ordered the remand of a 38-year-old man, Ibrahim Mohammed, in a correctional centre for allegedly stealing a cell phone.
The judge, Ishaq Hassan, ordered that the defendant be remanded until Jan. 21, to determine his sentence.
The defendant, with no fixed address, pleaded guilty to the charge of theft and begged for leniency.
The Prosecution Counsel, Olarewaju Osho, told the court that the defendant was arrested and brought to Durumi Division by a police patrol team on Jan. 11.
According to him, in the course of the police patrol, the defendant was seen with an Infinix smart phone, trying to climb on top of a motorcycle in a location where hard drugs were sold.
He said that when the defendant was interrogated, he could neither give satisfactory account of himself nor the phone, and while being interrogated, a call came in, saying that the cell phone was stolen.
