Man, 32, jailed for cutting off friend’s hands in Bauchi

The Bauchi State Chief Magistrate Court No. 12 presided over by Haruna Abdulmumini Mamman has sentenced a 32-year-old man, Auwal Usman to two years in prison.

The Police arraigned the convict, Auwal Usman, before a Bauchi State Chief Magistrate’s Court for the crime.

The prosecutor, Inspector Yusuf Musa, told the court that Usman had a misunderstanding with his friend, Sabo Abduwa, which led to a fisticuff between them.

According to Musa, it was in the process that Usman macheted his friend in his two hands, leading to the amputation of one of the hands while the other was dangling.

He added that the victim was rushed to the Ningi General Hospital, where the dangling hand was eventually amputated to save his life, having sustained serious injuries.

The offence committed by Usman, according to the prosecuting police officer, was contrary to Section 241 of the Penal Code Law.

The convict pleaded guilty to the charge preferred against him and pleaded for the court’s clemency being a first-time offender.

In his judgment, Chief Magistrate Haruna Abdulmumini Mamman held that the court was convinced the defendant committed the offence he was charged with.

He further held that because of Usman’s heinous crime, the victim lost his two hands and became disabled.

The Chief Magistrate then convicted Usman and subsequently sentenced him to two years imprisonment for causing grievous harm to the victim without any option of fines.

He also ordered the convict to pay the sum of N150,000 spent by the victim as medical expenses.
