Man, 32, bags 6 months jail term for stealing motorcycle

A Zuba Upper Area Court in Abuja on Friday sentenced a 32-year-old businessman, Ezekiel Musa, to six month imprisonment for absconding with a motorcycle worth N250,000.

Musa was arraigned on a two-count charge of breach of trust and cheating and he pleaded guilty.

The Judge, Gambo Garba, however, gave him an option of N20,000 fine, and warned him against criminal acts

Garba also ordered Musa to pay N250,000 as compensation to the motorcycle owners –  the complainant.

Earlier, prosecution counsel, Mr Chinedu Ogada, told the court that Musa committed the offences on Jan. 20.

Ogada said that Mrs Sandra Akwaraonwu of Ihejirika Quarters, Mogadishu Cantonment, Asokoro, Abuja, reported the matter at the Dawaki Police Station on Jan. 21.

He said the complainant gave Musa a Bajaj motorcycle worth N250,000 to be used for commercial purposes (courier services).

“Musa disappeared with the motorcycle without the consent of the owner,’’ he said.

The prosecutor said that Musa later sold the motorcycle for N150, 000 to an unknown person.

According to Ogada, during a police investigation, Musa confessed to the crime.

The prosecutor, however, said that the motorcycle was still missing.

He noted that the offences contravened Sections 312, and 322 of the Penal Code.
