Man, 29, docked over alleged theft of  N15,000

A 29-year-old casual worker, Babatunde Adewuyi, on Tuesday appeared before an Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun for allegedly stealing ten packs of seaman sachet valued at N15,000 belonging to his employer.

Adewuyi, whose address was not provided, was facing a charge of stealing.

The prosecutor, Insp E.O. Adaraloye, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Feb 23 at 6.00 p.m.at NDL Company, along Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway, Ota.

Adaraloye said the defendant, being a casual worker of the company, was caught at the gate entrance by security guards with ten packs of seaman sachets, valued at N15,000.

He said that the defendant was later handed over to police at Sango-Ota for further investigation.

The prosecutor said that the offence contravened Sections 390(6) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun, 2006.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Magistrate, Mrs A O Adeyemi, granted N50,000 bail to the defendant with one surety in like sum.

Adeyemi said that the surety must resides within the court’s jurisdiction and be gainfully employed with evidence of tax payment to Ogun Government.

The case was adjourned until March 12 for further hearing.
