The police in Ekiti State on Tuesday arraigned a 22-year-old man, Joshua Edet, before an Ekiti State Chief Magistrate’s Court over alleged conversion of funds.
Police prosecutor, Inspector Olubu Apata, told the court that the defendant committed the offence between July 12 and September 7, at LAZORA Bar, opposite Fayose Market, Ajilosun Area in Ado-Ekiti.
The prosecutor said, “The defendant, a sales boy, fraudulently converted the sum of N250,400 belonging to his boss, one Babafemi Damola, to his own. The offence contravened Section 295 and punishable under Section 302 Laws of Ekiti State 2021.”
Apata, however, urged the court to adjourn the case to enable him to study the file and assemble his witnesses.
His counsel, Mrs Korede Onipede, asked the court to grant her client bail with a promise that he would not jump bail.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Kehinde Awosika, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 with one surety in like sum and adjourned the case till October 26, for hearing.
The police also arraigned a 39-year-old woman, Yetunde Hanapy, before an Ado Ekiti Magistrates’ Court over alleged negligence of duty.
The police prosecutor, Inspector Sodiq Adeniyi, told the court that the defendant committed the offence between 2021 and July 2023 in Omuo Ekiti.
Adeniyi alleged that the defendant neglected her duty post as an auditor of the Staff of Self Reliance Economic Advancement Programme Micro Finance Bank which led to substantial fraud and financial harm on the company.
The prosecutor, who said that the offence contravened Section 262 of the Criminal Laws of Ekiti State, 2021, however, urged the court for an adjournment to enable him study the case file to assemble his witnesses.
Counsel to the defendant, Mr Christian Ekere, urged the court to grant the defendant bail, with a promise that she would not jump bail.
The Magistrate, Dolapo Babalogbon, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum and adjourned the case till October 11, for hearing.
