Man, 21, arraigned for allegedly theft of N6.5m phones in Lagos

A 21-year-old man, Onoruoyiza Suleiman, has been arraigned before the Ogba Magistrates’ Court sitting in Ikeja, Lagos State, for allegedly stealing 15 telephone handsets valued at N6.5m belonging to Jumia Logistic Company Limited.

Onoruoyiza was on Wednesday arraigned before Magistrate O.A Ogunjobi and he is facing one-count bordering on stealing preferred against him by the police.

According to the police prosecutor, Emmanuel Okwunjo, the offence committed is punishable under Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The charge read, “That you, Onoruoyiza Suleiman, on March 15, 2023, around 6am at No. 2B, Universal Industrial Estate, Jumia Logistics Company, Ikeja, Lagos State, in the Ikeja Magisterial District, being a staff, did steal two Galaxy A73, 5G phone valued at N485,000 each, two iPhone XS valued at N285,000 each, one iPhone 13 Pro max valued at N800,000, one Galaxy 820 phone valued at N251,000, one Galaxy 100 phone that valued at N201,133:00.

“One iPhone 11 valued at N327,000.00, one Itel 5G note valued at N212,600.00, six iPhone 12 Pro max valued N51,140,87k, total value at N6,551,873,87, property of Jumia Logistic Company Limited and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 280 and punishable under Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”

Ogunjobi granted him bail in the sum of N250,000 with two responsible sureties in like sum.

The magistrate said the sureties must be gainfully employed with proof of evidence, and one must be a blood relation of the defendant, among others.

The case was adjourned till April 24, 2023, for mention.
