Man, 20, gets 6 months jail for constituting public nuisance

A Dei-dei Grade 1 Area Court in Shagari Quarters, Abuja, on Tuesday sentenced one Zaka Sunday to six months imprisonment for being a public nuisance in Zuba, Abuja.

The Judge, Saminu Suleiman, however, gave the convict an option to pay N10,000 fine and warned him to always be a law-abiding citizen.

The police charged Sunday, 20, of Zuba village with public nuisance.

The convict pleaded guilty to the crime and asked the court to temper justice with mercy.

Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Mr Chinedu Ogada, told the court that on March 2, at about 9:30 p.m, a police patrol team of Zuba Police Station arrested and brought the convict to the station.

Ogada said the police team had raided all black spots and criminal hideouts around Zuba Park, Abuja.

He said that in the process, the team arrested the convict in a black spot where criminals usually hide to snatch innocent citizens bags and cell phones.

Ogada said  the convict was caught with Mp3 Speaker suspected to be stolen and during police investigation, he confessed to stealing the item from someone’s room.

He told the court that the police contacted the owner of the electronic item who later came to the station  and collected his property.

The prosecutor said the offence contravened the Penal Code Law.
