Malaria to be reduced to less than 10% in the next 5 years — Dr. Osagie

The Health Minister, Dr. Osagie Ehanire has promised that malaria will be reduced to less than 10% in the country in the next 5 years.

The Minister gave the assurance while receiving the Board of Trustees and Council of the Institute of Health Service Administrators of Nigeria who paid a courtesy visit to his office yesterday.

Dr Ehanire was represented by Dr. (Mrs) Alex Okoh at a virtual event organised by GBCHealth Combating Malaria in Africa: Lessons & Opportunities. GBHCHealth is a global coalition of private sector companies leading the business fight for improved global health.

Dr. Okoh in her remark stated, “It is my joy to note from the 2020 World Malaria Report, that in the African Region, malaria cases per 1000 population at risk has shown a decline from 362.8 in 2000 to 225.2 in 2019.”

“We are committed to a reduction of the malaria burden in the next 5 years to a parasite prevalence of less than 10% & reduce mortality attributable to malaria to less than 50% deaths per 1000 live births by 2025,” Dr Alex Okoh said.

“Finally, may I use this opportunity to thank the Corporate Alliance on Malaria in Africa for organizing this very relevant & timely virtual event,” Dr Alex Okoh.
