Makinde swears in Abdulganiyu as President, Customary Court of Appeal

Gov. Seyi Makinde on Monday sworn in Justice Tajudeen Abdulganiyu as the President of the Oyo State Customary Court of Appeal.

Makinde, while administering the Oath of Allegiance and Judicial Oath on Abdulganiyu, pledged his administration’s continuous support for the judiciary and legislative arms toward maintaining a functional system.

The governor noted that his administration had been sustaining a cordial relationship with the judiciary since he assumed office.

He said his administration would not relent in its efforts to uplift the justice system in the state.

Makinde said Abdulganiyu’s appointment followed due process and recommendations without political, religious or ethnic colourations.

The governor, therefore, charged the new president of the customary court to act judiciously and fairly to develop the institution.

Speaking with newsmen after the swearing-in ceremony, Abdulganiyu promised to promote the customary laws, saying the laws were enforceable and not inferior to the English laws.

He equally assured the people of the state that he would bring the functionality of the customary court into more practice.

Among government functionaries at the occasion were Deputy Gov. Bayo Lawal; Speaker, Oyo State House of Assembly, Mr Debo Ogundoyin, and the Chief Judge of the state, Justice Iyabo Yerima.

The Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Prof. Nike Adeyemo, was also in attendance.
