Makinde condemns alleged assault on OYRTMA officers
Gov. Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has condemned the alleged assault on two officers of the State Road Traffic Management Authority (OYRTMA), by the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) personnel.
Makinde, while visiting the residences of the affected officers, Nurudeen Abiola and Taiwo Adeagbo, at Oke’badan and Binukonu areas in Ibadan, described the incident as unacceptable.
He noted that the officers were just trying to enforce the law of the state.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the incident occured on Friday when OYRTMA officers apprehended an official of the NIS over alleged traffic rules violation in Ibadan.
It was reported that in the course of taking the traffic offender to OYRTMA office, the immigration personnel verred his car to Zone F, Immigration Service office on Sawmill – Agodi Gate Road.
It was also alleged that the OYRTMA officers were arrested, stripped naked and detained by the Zone F Command of the NIS.
“Whether you are an immigration official or you are working for other para military agencies, these individuals are just trying to enforce the law of the state. The fact that you work for a federal agency does not mean you’re superior.
“Oyo State must be known for rule of law, we have zero tolerance for people breaking traffic rules.
“I have asked the State Attorney General to investigate and follow this through. We will write the immigration service authority and we will prosecute people involved,” the governor said.
