Makinde appoints Sulaiman Olanrewaju as new CPS

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has appointed Sulaiman Olanrewaju, as his new Chief Press Secretary.

Sulaiman was until his appointment the Group Business Editor of Nigerian Tribune.

Makinde made the announcement shortly after adopting and signing the report of the Transition Committee on Monday.

The Governor also reappointed a former member of House of Representatives, Hon. Segun Ogunwuyi, as his Chief of Staff (CoS).

He was the CoS until last week when Makinde dissolved his cabinet ahead of his inauguration for a second term of four years in office. He also served as the Chairman of the Transition Committee for the second term inauguration of the governor.

Olanrewaju replaces the former CPS, Mr. Taiwo Adisa who was at the Obafemi Awolowo Stadium and witnessed the second term inauguration of Makinde’s second term on Monday.

The Governor stated that the new CPS was absent from the event because he was unaware of his own appointment noting that his decision to appoint Olanrewaju was as a result of due diligence privately carried out.

In response, the Oyo State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) congratulated Governor Seyi Makinde of the State on the successful conclusion of his first term in office and the beginning of his second term, which would last another four years.

This was contained in a statement released on Monday by the State’s NUJ Chairman, Chief Ademola Babalola, and the union’s State Secretary, Comrade Olusola Oladapo.

“On behalf of NUJ, Oyo State Council, we congratulate Governor Seyi Makinde on his historic second term inauguration.

“We are confident that he will continue to serve the state’s decent citizens to the best of his ability after completing his first term in office.

“We are of the opinion that if his first term was outstanding, this second term, which began today, will be a standard, not only for successive administrations in the pace-setter state, but also for other states, and the country at large, to key into accelerated sustainable development.

“The executive branch of government and the media stakeholders in Oyo State would now be able to negotiate more effectively as a result of this appointment. Pastor Sulaimon Olanrewaju, the new Chief Press Secretary, is a top member of Oyo NUJ.

“He is a superb leader in his own right and has a wonderful personality. He is a kind-hearted individual who is the ideal fit for this new position. We are prepared to collaborate and work together in order to produce quality services; to have a better working relationship with His Excellency; and to create better government for the wonderful citizens of our beloved state.

“We fervently pray that Almighty God will be with him and enable him to achieve great things in the difficult task of portraying the governor in a favourable light,” the statement read.
