Three Engineering bodies have donated N10 million and relief material to support communities affected by flood in Maiduguri, Borno State, towards the ongoing recovery and rebuilding efforts by the state government.
The bodies are the Nigerian Society of Engineers(NSE),Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria(COREN)and the Association for Consulting Engineering in Nigeria(ACEN).
This was contained in statement by the Vice President,Corporate Services of NSE, Dr Felicia Agubata,on Thursday in Lagos.
Agubata said that the donation was presented during the condolence visit of a joint delegation of the bodies to the syste governor, Babagana Zulum, and the Shehu of Borno, Abubakar El-Kanemi.
According to her, the engineering bodies extended their heartfelt condolences to the governor and the people of the state, while presenting a cheque of N10 million and relief materials.
She listed the relief material presented to include first-grade clothing for children aged three months to 10 years,clothes for adults and cardigans,among others.
She said that the gesture highlighted their commitment of the engineering bodies to humanitarian efforts and disaster relief in Nigeria, which further demonstrates their dedication to national development and resilience building.
Meanwhile, Zulum appreciated the engineering bodies for the timely intervention and support.
The governor harped on the urgent need for collaborative efforts to address the disaster’s impact and restore normalcy in the affected areas.
On his part, Shehu of Borno, Abubakar El-Kanemi, said that the visit underscored the value of the engineering community, for their support during the critical time of recovery for Borno state.
The visit followed a devastating flood caused by the Alau Dam disaster.
It led to mass displacement,destruction of property,and extensive infrastructural damage in Maiduguri and its surrounding.
