Maid’s negligence razes four-bedroom flat In Ilorin

A female house maid’s negligence has led to the destruction of a four-bedroom flat in Ilorin, Kwara State. The incident occurred on Thursday at No. 6, Phase 1, off Baba-Soja Street, Akerebiata, Ilorin East local government area.

According to the State Fire Service, the fire started when the maid attempted to ignite the gas cooker, causing an explosion that led to the fire.

The maid was unharmed, but the entire structure was severely damaged due to the delayed emergency call.

“The fire officers tried containing the fire and preventing it from spreading to adjacent buildings. The fire was eventually extinguished due to the expertise of the fire officers,” said Hassan Adekunle, head of department, media and publicity of the fire service.

The Director of the Kwara State Fire Service, Prince Falade John, expressed his sympathy to those affected and urged the public to adhere strictly to safety precautions.

“It is important to strike matches before turning on gas appliances to prevent similar incidents in the future,” he said.
