Magistrate court remands 2 for “defilement” “abduction” in Port Harcourt

One Thompson Orube on Tuesday was remanded in the Port Harcourt Correctional Center by a Magistrate Court sitting in Port Harcourt for allegedly defiling an eight-year-old girl.

The charges against him alleged that Orube, last year in Ogale Community in Eleme Local Government Area of Rivers State forcefully had carnal knowledge of the eight-year-old girl.

The Chief Magistrate, Rita Oguguo, however, did not allow the accused to take his plea.

She subsequently adjourned the matter till the 22nd February 2022 pending the amendment and regularization of the charge by the prosecution.

The Chief Magistrate further ordered that the accused be remanded in the Port Harcourt Correctional Center.

Similarly, the Chief Magistrate also remanded one Ifeanyi Ukaegbu at the Port Harcourt Correctional facility on a charge of abduction of nineteen-year-old Favour Emmanuel in August 2020.

The Chief Magistrate also did not allow the charge to be read but directed the elder brother to the accused to produce the nineteen-year-old girl who is said to have been delivered of a new baby for the accused.

The girl is expected to be brought to court on Thursday, the 20th of January, 2022 when the charge will be read.
