LP Chieftain calls for modern tech solutions to tackle insecurity

By: Austine Emmanuel, Kaduna

Labour Party, (LP) Chieftain, Amb. Francis Matthew Bobai has called on the federal government to adopt modern technologies for effective crime detection and prevention.

His plea comes amid rising concerns about safety in the region, with the aim of empowering communities to take proactive measures against security threats.

Speaking at a symposium organized by Privilege Magazine and Communications Nigeria Ltd, in collaboration with Arewa Concerned Citizens Forum, (ACCF) on “Addressing Security, Socio-Political Challenges and Promoting Community Cohesion in Kaduna state at the weekend, Bobai underscores the need to integrate technologies such as drones, artificial intelligence, and advanced surveillance systems to significantly bolster the capabilities of security agencies.

Bobai, who is an Aspirant for Chikun/Kajuru By-election, Federal House of Representatives, added that the urgent need for swift government response to security challenges, can never be overemphasized, stressing the necessity of establishing community policing initiatives that leverage technology to foster cooperation between citizens and law enforcement agencies.

The philanthropist also harp on Mobile apps for reporting suspicious activities, community safety alerts, and real-time crime mapping, capable of enhancing communication and trust, creating a safer environment for all, while noting that citizens must take charge of their safety even as he asserted that divine intervention requires individual accountability.

He said, “If we know they live among us and understand their tactics, we can act effectively to protect ourselves.

“God is the master watcher, but we must also be vigilant. I equally want to appeal to all relevant stakeholders to set aside differences and collaborate on policies that foster peace because without a united front, efforts to combat insecurity would be futile.

“With the right support and resources, I believe that the government can empower local communities to take charge of their safety and ultimately transform the fight against insecurity into a shared responsibility.”
