Local Govt election: APC, PDP, others await LASIEC’s guidelines

By Ekengbuda Robinson

Party secretariats were deserted on Thursday, a day after the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) released the time table for the forth-coming local government polls.

When the Nigerian NewsDirect visited the All Progressives Congress (APC) secretariat in Ojo, only a few administrative staff were seen in a relaxed mode.

One of the staff who preferred to stay anonymous said they were waiting for the election guidelines from LASIEC before the secretariat can talk to the press.

Also, the Ikeja secretariat of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) was not different, except that the offices were not open.

A lone personnel of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corpse (NSCDC) was seen on duty, and told Nigerian NewsDirect that activities at the secretariat will resume after the guidelines have been released.

Recall that the LASIEC had on Wednesday, April 21, released time table for election into chairmanship and councillorship posts in the 20 local government areas, and 37 local council development areas of the state.

The election is slated for Saturday, July 24, 2021, with run-off/re-run election(s) billed for July 31.
