LIRS Chairman, CAC RG, UNIUYO VC confirm participation in NewsDirect Awards

Prominent figures from Nigeria’s public and academic sectors have confirmed their participation in the 14th Annual NewsDirect Anniversary and Awards Ceremony, slated for December 6, 2024, at the prestigious Oriental Hotel in Lekki, Lagos.

Among the confirmed attendees are the Chairman of the Lagos State Internal Revenue Service (LIRS), Mr. Ayodele Subair; the Registrar-General of the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), Hussaini Ishaq Magaji, SAN and the Vice Chancellor of the University of Uyo, (UNIUYO), Professor Nyaudoh Ukpabio Ndaeyo.

These distinguished leaders will join an impressive line-up of government officials, business moguls, and influencers.

The event’s theme, “Achieving Economic Prosperity: The Role of Human Capacity Development, Fiscal Prudence, and Revenue Generation,” seeks to shed light on critical issues in economic growth and sustainable development.

The NewsDirect Awards is renowned for recognising individuals who have made significant contributions to public service, governance, and economic development in Nigeria.

Also, Minister of Power, Oloye Adebayo Adelabu, Chairman/CEO of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa and the Chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Brig. Gen Buba Marwa among others have confirmed their participation too.

Since assuming office as the Executive Chairman of the Lagos State Internal Revenue Service (LIRS) in 2016, Hamzat Ayodele Subair has been a driving force behind the agency’s transformative reforms, resulting in substantial improvements in revenue generation for the state.

Under Subair’s leadership, LIRS has implemented a series of innovative strategies that have set a new benchmark for tax administration in Lagos State.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu appointed Hussaini Ishaq Magaji, SAN, as the 5th Registrar-General of the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), with immediate effect. He officially assumed office on October 16, 2023.

Born on August 2, 1982, in Bauchi State, Magaji’s academic journey includes studying law at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and obtaining a Master’s in Law from the University of Jos.

He also earned an MBA in Finance and Investment from Bayero University, Kano. Magaji’s legal career began in 2009 at the Bauchi State Ministry of Justice, where he rose to the rank of Deputy Director of Public Prosecution by 2020. In 2021, he was conferred the prestigious title of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN).

He later transitioned into private legal practice, founding Ishaq Magaji SAN & Co., before his appointment to the CAC.

Also, Professor Nyaudoh Ukpabio Ndaeyo, a distinguished academic and agricultural expert, was appointed the 8th substantive Vice Chancellor of the University of Uyo on October 6, 2020.

Born on March 25, 1961, in Ini Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom State, Ndaeyo has had a distinguished career at the University of Uyo, where he began as a graduate assistant in 1992 and rose to become a professor of Farming Systems in 2010.

He earned first-class honours in Agronomy from the University of Uyo in 1991, followed by an MSc in Agronomy and a PhD in Farming Systems from the University of Ibadan. Ndaeyo has served in various leadership roles, including Head of the Department of Crop Science, Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, and Deputy Vice Chancellor.
