‘Light Up Ogun State’ Movement to unveil vision for 2027 at press conference

The Light Up Ogun State Movement is set to hold a highly anticipated press conference on November 19, 2024, to unveil its vision for the future of Ogun State and call for greater involvement of Christians in the state’s governance.

According to Apostle Olawoye B. Kayode, the movement’s convener, the Church has been too passive in Nigeria’s political affairs, contributing to the nation’s current challenges.

“The time has come for the Church of God in Nigeria to actively engage in politics and governance, starting with Ogun State. For too long, we have stayed on the sidelines, allowing darkness to prevail where light should shine,” he said in a statement ahead of the event.

The highlight of the press conference will be the announcement of Operation Light Up Ogun State 2027, a campaign aimed at uniting Christians to influence the political landscape. The movement plans to launch this initiative in early 2025, with the ultimate goal of producing the next governor of Ogun State.

With Christians making up 70 percent of Ogun State’s population and hosting the headquarters of prominent churches such as RCCG, Deeper Life, Living Faith, MFM, and GOFAMINT, Apostle Kayode believes the community has the numbers and the divine mandate to bring about meaningful change.

The movement clarified that it is not aligned with any political party at this time.

“Our mission is to support any God-fearing candidate who is willing to include us in governance and work for the good of Ogun State,” Apostle Kayode explained.

While charting a path for the future, the movement also acknowledged the achievements of the current administration under Governor Dapo Abiodun. Apostle Kayode noted that the Church supported his election and re-election campaigns and continues to pray for his success.

The press conference will culminate in a rallying call for unity among Christians in Ogun State. “We are the largest constituency in the land, and with unity, we can shape a better future for Ogun State. Let us come together in the name of Jesus Christ and choose the next governor of Ogun State,” Apostle Kayode urged.
