‘Let the poor breathe,’ protesters tells Tinubu, storm Lagos amid heavy security presence

By Sodiq Adelakun

On Wednesday morning, protesters stormed the Ikeja Underbridge in Lagos as Nigeria commemorated the 2024 Democracy Day.

A significant security presence was observed at the scene, with policemen and officials from the Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps on duty.

The protesters chanted solidarity songs while holding placards and banners.

Among the messages on their placards were: “President Tinubu, let the poor breathe,” “For another general strike with mass protest now,” and “Payment of living wage to all Nigerian workers now.”

Several civil society groups, including the Take It Back Movement, the Education Rights Campaign, the Coalition for Revolution, and the Socialist Workers League, organized and led the protest.
